He´s

sister. His mother´s name is Carmen Moreno and his father’s name is Carlos
Jaime García who is the owner of the first factory of fórmica in his country.
When

disturbing say Charly. He was hold to his small piano toy and forgets of his
parent´s absence. He suffered a nervous crisis and this caused vitiligo, for
that reason he has two colors in his mustache. This caused his sobriquet,
bicolor mustache.
When
his parents came back from Europe, his mother began to work in a successful
program of radio named Folklorísimo where

was where famous artists like Mercedes Sosa and Ariel Ramirez met to Charly.
When
he was 12 years old, he received such as teacher of theory and sol-fa and
offered him a scholarship for study in Italy, but he rejected it because he
didn´t want leave his family again.
Initiation (1964-1969)
One
night, Mercedes Sosa was to take a dinner to the García Moreno house. She
listened to Charly when he was playing the piano, and she told to Ariel Ramirez:
“this guy is like Chopin”. The guy loved the classic music and hated the
popular music equally to his parents. He slept a little time, he felt that if
slept he was losing the time, he spend time all days playing music of Chopin of
Mozart.
After
some years, The Beatles changed his life; they changed his vision musical
forever. With them arrived too The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Birds, The
Who and others bands and finished his career like a classic music, he order an
electric guitar. He left his long hair and began the fights with his father who
told him that should go out to get job although they didn’t have economic
problems.
With
his mother was different, she felt that Carlitos was a special guy, “¿how can
be that a boy three years old plays anything in the piano? Charly was a special
thing, I am wrong to say, but it is true”.
Sui Generis (1970-1974) In his first years, Charly assisted
to the Instituto Social Militar "Dr.
Dámaso Centeno" and he ran away of class and went to play the piano in
the assembly hall. Here he founded his band To
Walk Spanish. After that, during the high school, he met Nito Mestre who
had a band named The Century Indignation and he founded a new band named Sui
Generis.

problem, was in the hospital and he thought die that night and he composed
Canción Para mi muerte, the first
success of the band. When he went out to the hospital and came back to the
band, Charly y Nito continued together and under the influence of Elton John,
Bob Dylan created music without the knowledge of change the national rock
history.
One
night during a concert, a girl approached him and gives him his number. After
he called her and the girl was Maria Rosa Yorio who studied theater and they
had a son, Miguel Angel.
After
venture by a lot of record companies they got to record their first disc, Vida. It was an unexpected a true
success. But in 1973 when edited their second disc, Confesiones de Invierno, they were consolidate and were more than a
simple rock group.
The
politic situation of the country was very hard; the Alianza Anticomunista Argentina attacked anything and everything
that disgusted. That period wasn´t the right moment for attack institutions,
but just this did Charly with Botas locas
and Juan represión. They didn´t
sing that in Argentina but sang in Uruguay and the politic situation was
similar, for that reason were arrested almost on stage.
The
album wasn´t sold like Charly waited, so they take the decision of divide the
band, but the parting was with a big concert in Luna Park, around 25.000 fans
assisted to the event, it was named, Adios
Sui Generis.
PorSuiGieco / La Máquina (1974-1977)
In
1974, important figures of the acoustic rock, got meet and go out of tour
without a good project, only get fun, sing and share a good moments. Charly García, Raúl
Porchetto, Nito Mestre, León Gieco y María Rosa Yorio formed PorSuiGieco y su Banda de Avestruces Domadas. The disc suffered some censures by the
government of Isabel Perón and it had to be modified without the “El fantasma
de Canterville” song.
Charly
began to explore by others musical ways. He had to go to the psychoanalyst, he
spent all the time inside of his apartment, playing and composing and he didn´t
speak with anyone. After PorSuiGieco his
next project was La máquina de hacer
pájaros and it was the more complex project in the symphonic rock of
Argentina.
The
military coup got scared everyone. Charly didn´t want to go out to street
because he thought his name could be in the black list. He feared by his life
and because in few time he was father. The baby born however the marriage
wasn´t fine, García spent more attention to his music and her wife felt alone,
in few months they broke up. Spent few time and his ex-wife got a new company;
he was the Charly´s best friend, Nito.
In
1977, on the Festival del Amor was
the latest presentation of La Máquina de
hacer Pajaros in the Luna Park,
too. After that, Charly met Marisa Zoca Pederneiras, a Brazilian
dancer who was her wife until 80´s.
The
consecration: Serú Girán (1978–1982)
After
the fights in Sui Generis, Charly traveled to Brasil with David Lebon, he
wanted to be near to his girlfriend Zoca and he rented a house by three months.
Although
the commercial success of Sui Generis,
Charly was indigent. Zoca and Charly had a poor life but he was convinced to
form a new band. When he did his way to came back to Buenos Aires, with David
Lebon, Pedro Aznar y Oscar Moro created a band named Serú Girán.
Serú Girán won a lot of prizes in different categories, but the
beginning was very difficult, in the first concert in Buenos Aires somebody
specialized in press classified it like the worse Argentinian band and said
that David Lebon’s voice sounds homosexual.
Little
by little the band was taking acceptation for the public, but in 1981, Aznar
was convened by a guitarist of US for his band. They accorded meet in US
because Aznar traveled the next to study in Berklee College of Music; for that
reason the ban was separated in 1982, but like in previous situations with a
big concert named: No llores por mi Argentina.
In that year Charly began his career like a soloist.
Career
like a soloist (from 1982 until the present)
1982-1984 soloist beginnings
In 1982,
Argentina was in a politic changes; the national rock was promoted by media
communications because during de Malvinas’ war, the English music was
forbidden. So, the album “Yendo de la
cama al living” had a good reception, with songs like “No bombardeen Buenos Aires”, “Inconsciente Colectivo”, “Yo no
quiero volverme tan loco”, “Yendo de la cama al living” between the most
successful. For this band, Andrés Calamaro was in the keyboards.
The
next year, Charly traveled to New York. When he came back to Buenos Aires, he brought

with the economic openness. Song like “Los Dinosaurios”, “Nos siguen pegando

In 1987 arrived, “Parte de la Religión”
considerate with “Tango” like the
most important albums of Charly and them finished confirming like one of the
most important Argentinian composer and a recognized international artist.
He acted in a film, a futurist novel, who interpreted a sick. Curiosity,
in New York, he won the prize to the best supporting actor. During the movie,
he drove, that is something that he has never never done in his real life.
García composed a song named “Zocacola”,
by her wife, but a few times they broke up. He had changed, he was older
and his music was dark its sound was like Punk rock with violent themes.
1990-1995: The excess days.
In
1990, Charly had a lot of ideas, but his band didn´t has. His partners leave
him alone and for his new disc “Filosofía barata y zapatos de goma”
called his old friends, the most important were Andrés Calamaro, Rinaldo
Rafanelli,Fabiana Cantilo, Nito Mestre, Pedro Aznar, Fabián von Quintiero until Hilda Lizarazu.
In 1991 he recorded “Radio Pinti”. He wanted to record a disc with
Gustavo Cerati with the name “Tango 3”,
but the project was never developed.
In 1993, Charly was contracted for the soundtrack of the movie Funes, un gran amor and in 1994he launched “La hija de la lágrima”. In
this year, Kurt Cobain died. Charly being his fan dye blonde hair.
During 1994, the World Cup Soccer was played in Unites States and Diego
Maradona was implicated with problems about drugs with the FIFA, and Diego was
sent to house. Argentina lost two important games and was declassified, when
the second game was ending, Charly called Diego Maradona’s cellphone and sang “Maradona Blues”, it´s a song that
Charly composed for him and Diego cried.
1996-1999: Era Say no More
In 1996 “Say no More” was launched from his own record label named Say
no more, too.
He knew Mercedes Sosa since their childhood and they recorded a disc
named “Alta Fidelidad” where Mercedes
sang her favorite Charly´s songs.
In 1998, he produced “El Aguante”,
this production had some covers translated to Spanish of bands that Charly admires.
2000-2006: Maravillización
In 2000, Nito and Charly decided recreate Sui Generis, the situation was different when they´re 25 years old,
but in this situation they composed new song for the album “Sinfonías para adolescentes”.
After this interruption like a soloist, in 2002 Charly created other new
album Influencia and 2003 he
presented, “Rock and roll yo”, this
album was dedicated to his ex-guitarist and friend María Gabriel Epumer who
died in June of that year.
2007-2008: Internment
In June
14, Charly was taken to a hospital in Mendoza maybe due an overdose of alcohol
and drugs. After that, his friend Palito Ortega invited him to his house of
vacations and he did deal with doctors and psychiatrists. The process was
around one year.
2009 – The return
After
his long recovery, Charly came back in Agosto 2009 with a new song named “Deberías saber por qué” the song was
converted in a success and Charly began a tour by Perú and Chile.
Personality and controversy
Charly
García always was a controversial figure as a national level as international,
his mood swings, drug addiction and his critics about himself and public
knowledge people and sometimes this hasn´t like to some sectors of the
Argentinian society.
He
was detained in a psychiatric clinic thrice; he was expelled from the army
because he didn´t stay confinement and the discipline imposed. He has had forbidden
the entrance to Uruguay by a few time because he hit a paparazzi who tried take
a picture. In Colombia Charly had problems when called it “Cocalombia”
In
Costa Rica, one Charly´s concert finished in a pitched battles when the concert
was suspended by the rain. He had problems in Paraguay when he locked four
girls in a in a hotel. Anytime one Charly´s fan was hit in a concert and Charly
gave him a guitar with his autograph in the hospital. Charly is like a
challenge for the journalists.
Those
are the most important situations when Charly has caused controversy, on one
occasion Charly with his compatriot Fito Páez generated controversy when said
something respect Ricardo Arjona, Fito said that Arjona was a “symptom of
annihilation” and Charly referred about Arjona´s fans, he said: is of “housewives, who watch soap opera, and
is a lot of people”
Problems with Andrés Calamaro
The
good relationship with Calamaro finished in the middle of the 90’s, when Charly
met Mónica (Calamaro´s girlfriend) in Madrid, while Calamaro was in a tour.
When Andres and Mónica broke up; started the problems between Charly and
Andrés.
And
there were all, since crosses almost sympathetic until artistic clashes. The
song “Alta Suciedad” of Calamaro, was
the answer for “Alta Fidelidad” of
Mercedes Sosa and Charly, the song is about the teeth of Charly. («El campeón tiene miedo de
pegar, no se quiere romper las manos, porque tiene que cantar el ritmo del
protector bucal…»)
Charly
García and his different bands I like because I perceive his music very
pleasant, sometimes his songs are nostalgic and a little depressive that are
reflecting the problems during the Argentinian dictatorship or his crazies
changes of moods, but others can denote a bit of euphoria and wake up emotions.
I
like Charly and his bands, because in their songs have a lot of critical around
the different facts that they lived during the politic situations in Argentina although
that was forbidden they decided say their ideas.
And
during the Malvinas war, the English rock wasn´t allowed for that reason Charly
got his respective importance in the National rock like a paradigmatic musician
and I was impressed.
With
this type of facts they became an icon of the Argentinian rock, that is some
awesome and somehow I think Charly, with Sui Generis and Serú Girán became the
referring like a The Beatles (my other favorite band) in their moment.
Also,
I like the Charly’s personality and his actions in the concerts. He´s a little
crazy.
